10 ways to know whether you are listening to music or shit

There is nobody in the world who doesn’t like music, except ISIS (they think drums are haram). Music is a way to connect with people, allows you to express your feelings, gives the sense of power and lets you relate your life with it. It is considered that music has existed among humans from past 55,000 years and now has diversified into different forms and genres. From Indian classical music to death metal, now music offers a wide range of variety for the listeners. For some people music is a single string instrument while for others it is a group of 100 people playing in an orchestra. But with the increasing demand and popularity, anyone is recording and selling music these days, but there are some common characteristic of music, based on which you can judge whether you are listening to music or shit.

 1.Lyrics

Lyrics are one of the most important part of a song, but nowadays most of the mainstream musicians don’t pay much attention to lyrics. You must understand that lyrics is not just about rhyming words, it’s a way of describing the feeling of the instrument through vocals. Every instrument used in a song tells a story which is written into lyrics. If the song which you are listening doesn’t have good lyrics then your choice of music is not good. Most of the lyrics these days keeps on repeating two or three words which are based on girls, party, car and love which is the worst way of composing music. A good lyrics is like a novel which is written with rhyming words and in a much shorter format.

2. Meaning and Message

Every song has a meaning and message, and if your song doesn’t have these then you need to move on. The guitars, drums, bass, vocals all contribute to tell you a story or message in the most entertaining and musical way possible. But most of the new songs these days are meaningless. They are just made to sell which reduces the power of music that has the capability to bring the most wonderful change possible in the world. And let me tell you that if your song says to party till 4, that isn’t a message.

3.Live performance

If you are still confused about the choice of your song then you can judge it through its live performance. A good musician will never release shit music and he will also never perform on tracks and lip sync. A good song will be performed on the stage with  each and every instrument used in the studio but most of the live performance these days consist of tracks and lip sync and people going for such concerts are either dumb or just want to see their so called music idols live. Dude, you can do that anywhere else also, you don’t need to pay Rs.20, 000 and stand in a huge crowd.

4.Theme

The theme of a song is also very much important. A good song will be having themes like consequences of war and drugs, story of a famous person, motivation, life, dreams, desire, etc. All such themes have a standard and quality while the theme of shit music is based upon party, girls, cars, bum, gold, cash, lavish lifestyle, promotion of drugs and then party again. I am not classifying music on the basis of the above mentioned theme, but you can easily see the standard of quality in these two scenarios.

5.Instrument

The use of instrument is a very important part of a good song. Musicians all over the world work hard for their whole life and then they add their musical influences and ideas in a song to give it a perfect shape while many songs, these days, are all based on auto tuned beats and notes which can be produced with just a one month lesson on a software. A good song should contain those parts of instruments which alone can give you goose bumps.

6.Originality

Have you ever thought how original your song is? By talking about originality, I don’t mean copying a song, but I mean about the way in which it has been recorded in the studio and the way it will sound when performed without so much filters. There are many singers who sound awesome on the recording and when you hear them singing live, you will ask yourself, Is this the same singer? A good song will sound exactly like the studio recording when performed live (or even better, example of Cry by Joe Satriani)

7.Song structure

A song is not based on any type of standardization, but still there are some essential parts of songs which need to be there like bridge, chorus, etc. It makes the song complete and takes you to various ups and down throughout the song but many songs these days starts from the north and then ends up nowhere. These songs are not meant to be heard, but are just sold to earn money.

8.Song for whom

Have you ever thought what goes in the mind of a musician (true musician) while composing the song? Whom does he keep in mind while composing a song? The answer is simple, himself.  A true musician will never think that the next part of my song will be liked by the audience or not, because he composes songs for himself not for the crowd and that’s how a true musician is able to express his feelings in the song. If a musician will start composing songs according to the demand of the crowd, then he will never be able to produce what he thinks.

9.Sustainability

A good song exists in the playlist of the listeners for lifetime while a shit piece of music lasts only a month in the market. If a song is good, then you can listen to it even after 10 or 20 years of its release because it has been made from the depth of the heart while songs these days come and go like seasons.

10.Crowd’s age

A good song can be listened be any age category, gender or race. Have you ever heard of 80 year old person enjoying Justin beiber’s song? No, but a song like stairway to heaven or nothing else matters can be enjoyed by a 6 year old kid to a 90 year old person also.

Why bands in India are limited till their college only

Forming a band is like a cakewalk these days or it’s better to say forming a band is considered as a cakewalk these days. Now you don’t have to give advertisement in newspaper like Lars Ulrich and wait for a legend like James Hatfield to respond. Thanks to the online platform which has made everything easy, but because of the ease of things, things have become approachable for even those people who still need a lot of time to get involved in to certain things. Let us take the example of book publishing, which is almost similar to forming band these days in terms of online platform. The traditional method of publishing involved sending a hardcopy of your manuscript through a post office, after which you have to wait for 7-8 months for the reply from the publishing house. But with the help of self-publishing through online medium, you just have to pay a certain amount of money and without any rejection you get published in 4-5 months. Isn’t that great? Yes, but due to the overcrowded authors, anyone I mean anyone is publishing books these days due to which some of the masterpiece self-published book gets overcasted.

Now let’s talk about the Indian scenario of forming bands. Most of the bands in India are formed in colleges because college widens your area of options and allows you to meet with different kind of people who have a different mindset and skills. This is the time when we are free from any obligation and get ample amount of time to spread our wings of innovation. That’s why there is so much involvement in fests and other extracurricular activities in college. Spreading your wings of innovation and passion is a good thing, but the thing which matters the most is how high you can fly with those wings.

Let us take an example of a first year college student who has just started learning guitar and during the first fest of the college, he saw some awesome performances in a Rock show (the most used name for band’s competition). Now he is motivated to form a band and instead of improving his skills on guitar, he starts searching for band members and as usual, he gets them with the help of few posts and friends. Now, as we know, a mature musician will never work with a learner in a band, so the guitarist in our example must have got band members of his level only. They will start jamming, and will be having fun, but there are maximum chances that none of them will be having any information about sound, song structure, stage act, and many other things which are required for a band.  At the end, they will get into a competition, perform (which will not be good) and return home.

These types of bands contribute to a major section of bands that are limited to their college only because they don’t see music as their life. They just want to perform, post pictures on FB, get 500 likes, love being called as Rockstar by friends, love buying costly kits. Even if such kinds of band improve with the advancement of time but still after the end of the college, they will join the corporate world and will post old memories on FB of live performance with a caption “miss those days”. I mean, come on, it’s your life, you make decisions in your life. The way in which you decided to do MBA, the way in which you decided to join the sector of your choice, you could have decided to continue your band, but band was the thing which got girls for you, got likes on FB, made you unique from the crowd and that’s all you wanted.

Now the above mentioned case was of an amateur musician, but there are many great college bands in India who perform very well, win many gigs, are very mature musicians, but still after the completion of college, the band is queued in the waiting section of to do list. Do you know why such situation arises with even good bands? This is because continuing a band in India is not lucrative passion at all. It doesn’t give you a 6 digit salary at the start of every month, it doesn’t give you respect among relatives, it doesn’t keep the expectation level of your parents up to the mark. I have a massive respect for those people who continue their band even after college because it needs lots of dedication and hard work. You keep on performing, recording OCs, Jamming, travelling from one city to another for many years and that too without being paid enough. But that’s the way it is.

In my own college only, there was a time when there were almost 24 bands, but now only 2-3 active bands today and the other 20 bands adjusted themselves to the expectation of society and family. That’s what happens to those people who consider music as a part time course which gets completed with the end of college but all the musicians need to understand that music is life time course which continues in the heart of listeners even after your death.

6 Reasons which could start World War 3

6 reasons which could start the World War 3

World War 1 witnessed the death of 38 million people and during World War 2, the number of casualties rose to 60 million people which was 3% of the world’s population in 1940. But the casualties of World War 3 are unimaginable as the advancement in technology and war tactics could throw us back to the age of sticks and stones. The rising power of nuclear weapon will make the World War 3, fast and most destructive war in history as the world’s most powerful nuclear weapon, Tsar Bomba is 3,333 times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
In past 5-10 years, we have slowly started moving towards the most destructive war of the world. Conflicts and wars in these 10 years could be considered as a sign for the World War 3. So in this blog, we will look at the 6 reasons which could start the world war 3.
1.       Conflict over Syira

The conflict over Russia is widening the gap of relationship between two major superpowers of the world, Russia and U.S.A. On one side, Russia is supporting Bashar al-hasad regime while the U.S is supporting the rebels. This is the same scenario as past world wars, when two superpowers were having serious conflict.
2.       Islam verses the rest of the world

The motive of Nazis before the second world war was to destroy a part of a human race, which included extreme execution and mass murder. The aim of ISIS is almost the same and slowly they are growing in every part of the world and targeting their aims in the most extreme way possible.
3.       Fight for oil

The strategy of the U.S for dominating the world in terms of oil is leading to unrest and critical situation in many parts of the world. The attack on Iraq is one of the best examples of how far the U.S can go for oil. Fight for natural resources have been a major reason for many wars and looking at the current situation of the U.S, it’s not going to stop soon.

4.       North Korea vs South Korea

The rivalry between North Korea and South Korea, and the fragile leadership of  Kim Jong could be a major reason for the start of World War 3. The moment North Korea attacks South Korea, major superpowers of the world like the U.S, Japan and their western allies Britian will get involved into it and that’s how a world war starts.

5.       China vs America

The conflict between U.S and China over the South China sea is growing bigger and bigger. And with Donald Trumph as the president of the U.S, its relation with China will get worse. It is not mandatory to mention that these two are the biggest superpowers of the world and a war between these two countries will drag many other allied countries.

6.       Toothless UNO

The motto of UNO is “it’s your world” but It would be perfect with these added lines “do whatever you want”. Attack on Syria, Iraq, conflicts between major superpowers and all the decisions being taken by the U.S, is that how a UNO works? It was unable to stop the Second World War and will be only a spectator in the third world war also.
