Growth, earning and empire will not be constant forever. There
is one certain thing for all these……. decline. Yes it’s a bitter actuality but
this phase comes for sure. Talking about
superpower, which country comes in your mind? Yes I know, US. According to Oxford Dictionary “A very powerful and influential nation (used especially with
reference to the US and the former Soviet Union when these were perceived as
the two most powerful nations in the world)”.
But what I told you about growth and
the most certain thing for it is also applicable in this case. Yes US will be
facing decline and it’s not because of the truth of decline, there are some
serious facts and figures which is a semblance of its decline.
US has lost its AAA credit rating due
to government deficit and rising debt. There can be further downgrading in next
12 to 18 months. They are losing rank in
quality of university and science, merchandise export. With the current trade
deficit, U.S will lose 5,00,00 jobs by 2050. In the book, “THE SPIRIT LEVEL:
WHY GREATER EQUALITY MAKES SOCIETIES STRONGER”, it has been written that the gap
between rich and poor is highest in U.S. According to IMF calculation, to
maintain present spending, U.S will have to double all federal taxes.
So if US will step down from the
throne of superpower, who will be next? This post will be answering this
question.
BRICS- Brazil, Russia, India, China
and South Africa. These are the major emerging economies which have the
potential to become the future superpower. To explain the potential of these
five future superpowers, we will be looking at five major factors on which a
country is based: Technology, Natural Resources, Economy, Political system and
War history. Yes there are many drawbacks of these countries also but we are
talking about future superpower.
Brazil
Economy
GDP- $2.523 trillion, 7th wealthiest
economy. World cup in 2014 and Olympic games in 2016 shows the growing and
stable economy of Brazil and yes it is an energy independent country.
Natural Resources
It has abundant natural resources and
14% of world’s fresh water. According to USGS, minerals information Annual
Publication of 2014, Brazil is the 3rd largest producer of iron ore.
It is also the second largest producer exporter of iron ore.
Technology
Embraer from Brazil is the 3rd
largest aircraft manufacturer.
Political System
Brazil has a presidential federal
Republic system. They have a very stable political system and the current
government gave a monthly stipend of $115 to poor family to send their children
to school and doctor.
War
After the fall of Communist Party,
they have fought 9 wars and have lost only one.
RUSSIA
Economy
GDP- $2,556 trillion
Natural Resources
Russia is the 2nd largest
gas producer and largest natural gas proven reserve. They are the 3rd
largest crude oil producer and according to WORLD STEEL ASSOCIATION 2013, 5th
largest steel producers. They also have gold, diamond, copper and timber.
Technology
They are the 2nd largestarm exporter in world and they currently sold $ 4.7 bn arms to INDIA which is
about 28 % of its total arm export. They
have made big achievements in space and are very advance in nuclear power also.
Political System
They have Federal Semi- Presidential
Republic. Russian democracy is not a total oxymoron and some people also called
the political system of Russia as “PUTINISM”.
War
They have fought 16 wars after a
stable government and have lost none of them.
INDIA
Economy
GDP- $ 1.842 trillion, 11th
largest economy by nominal GDP and 3rd largest by PPP.
Natural Resources
3rd largest Coal Producing
Country, 4th largest Iron Ore producer as per US geographical survey
.India is also very much rich in spices and 21 % of its land consists of
forest. According to Veerappa Moily,
minister for petroleum and gas, India will become energy independent by 2030
Technology
3rd largest scientific
manpower in world. Its space center is known for success on small budgets and
current example is Mars orbiter mission launched on 5th November ,
2013. It’s AGNI-5 missile comes under the world’s top ICBMS (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile).
Political System
World’s largest democracy.
War
12 wars, one defeat.
China
Economy
GDP- $ 13.395 trillion, 2nd
largest economy according to World Bank
Natural Resources
Technology
2nd largest producer of scientific
paper. Chinese companies such as Huawei and Lenevo are ruling the world. 3rd
country to send human in space. According to TOP500, they have the most
powerful computer system in world and 2nd in total number of PCS.
Political system
Single Party Socialist Republic. No opposition
exists and is mainly ruled by Communist Party of China.
War
After establishment of People’s
Republic of China
9 wars with no any losses.
South Africa
Economy
GDP- $ 371.211 billion, lots of future potential
with growing population and global firms entering into S. African market.
Natural Resources
Largest producer of Magnese and
largest non- organic mineral producer.
War
Fought 6 wars and lost none.
So get ready to see a downfall from
the throne and contenders getting ready to step up. We can’t say that who
exactly will be the next superpower but the downfall and new owner of the title
“Superpower” will happen for sure.
